St Benedicts Primary
- Client: St Benedict’s Primary School
Project Type: Structural Steel Installation – Covered Walkways
Tonnage: 5 Tonnes
Location: Applecross, Western Australia
About this Project
Overview
St Benedict’s Primary School underwent a structural steel installation to support new walkway coverings and covered learning areas. The project included the erection of galvanised steel frames and roofing infrastructure across multiple zones of the school grounds.
Scope of Works
- Fabrication and installation of multiple steel structures across the campus
- Structural framing for covered walkways and connecting corridors
- Load-bearing posts and roof frame supports installed over uneven terrain and around existing buildings
- Coordination with ongoing brickwork and surrounding site development
Challenges & Difficulties
- Tight Access Points: Working between existing brick walls, fencing, and built infrastructure required precision placement and equipment maneuvering.
- Uneven Groundworks: Installation across sand and incomplete concrete footings necessitated careful levelling and staged installation.
- Live School Environment: Scheduling and noise control were crucial due to the proximity to classrooms and the ongoing school term.
- Complex Geometry: The angular and staggered layout of walkways required customised steel sections and accurate measurements to align with planned roofing and brick features.
Project Outcomes
- All structural steel installed safely and within project timelines
- Clean and durable galvanised finish ready for roofing and final cladding
- Successful integration with other trades, including bricklayers and underground services
- Improved covered access between school buildings, increasing all-weather usability for students and staff
