About this Project

Overview

Westfab Welding was contracted by the Shire of Harvey to supply and install structural steel for a new senior citizen centre as part of a local community infrastructure upgrade. This civic project aimed to deliver a welcoming, functional space tailored to senior residents and community events.

Spanning 28 tonnes of galvanised steel, the project demanded precision engineering and seamless coordination with onsite contractors to ensure structural compliance, safety, and long-term durability.

Scope of Work

  • Fabrication of all galvanised structural steel components
  • Transport and delivery of steel to regional site
  • Full installation including columns, beams, bracing, and roof structure
  • On-site bolt-up and alignment to engineered specifications
  • QA and compliance to AS/NZS 5131 and AS/NZS 1554 standards

Challenges & Execution

Tight access within the town centre and a live construction site meant careful planning was essential to minimise disruption. With clear communication across all teams and staged steel deliveries, Westfab maintained the construction timeline without incident.

Despite fluctuating winter weather, the team achieved consistent installation progress by implementing temporary protections and sequencing work around clear-weather windows.

Outcome

Westfab successfully delivered a key structural component of the new Harvey Senior Citizen Centre on time and to spec, supporting the local government’s investment in community health and wellbeing. The completed frame provides a strong foundation for the centre’s future services and activities.

This project reflects Westfab’s capability to support regional infrastructure with reliability, quality workmanship, and seamless execution.
